Lüderenalp

Lüderenalp is one of the most beautiful excursion destinations in the Emmental. The vantage point affords exceptional panoramic views to the Bernese Alps and Jura. The annual Lüderen-Chilbi (fete) with Swiss wrestling is well known.
Lüderenalp nestles peacefully above the Emmental at 1141 m altitude, on the municipal boundary of Sumiswald and Langnau. A sanatorium specializing in whey cures and caring for tuberculosis patients stood here in 1890. After a fire in 1961, a new building was erected and the sanatorium became a popular hotel and restaurant for holidays and group events (family celebrations, seminars etc.). But Lüderenalp is mainly a day-trip destination for hikers, bikers, motor bikers and motorists. In addition to the restaurant, Lüderenalp also has a barbecue spot with children’s playground and boccia court.

Lüderenalp lies on the small, winding link road from Langnau through the Gohlgraben up to Lüderenalp and on the north side down to Wasen and Sumiswald in the Emmental. A postbus service runs between Langnau and Wasen via Lüderenalp. From Lüderenalp, a wonderful hiking trail leads eastwards, mostly on narrow paths along the ridge high above the hilly, forested Emmental landscape, to reach the Napf, another popular excursion spot.

The Lüderen-Chilbi (fete), always held at the beginning of August is famous far and wide. A time for singing and dancing, Swiss wrestling, yodelling, alphorn playing and flag throwing.

Highlights

  • Panorama from Lüderenalp –exceptional panoramic views: to the south to the Bernese Alps and to the north to the Jura.
