Alp Flix

Alp Flix, above Sur, ranks as a protected moorland landscape of exceptional beauty and national importance. The alp, inhabited throughout the year, is an oasis for peace-seeking tourists and researchers of biodiversity.
The plateau of Alp Flix lies between 1900 and 2000 m altitude in the midst of an Alpine landscape of considerable geological interest. Towards the west, the plateau falls abruptly to the valley, while to the east it rises steeply to the summit at over 3300 m. The richly varied mosaic of meadow, woodland, moor, tiny lakes and rocks is home to an enormous diversity of species, which is being examined in a long-term study by ten national and international research teams.

Alp Flix does not correspond to the classic Alpine settlement used only for summer grazing of cattle. Throughout the year, four families live on the alp, where hay is reaped over a wide area and also partly used there as fodder. Apart from agriculture, tourism is above all of importance to the community. Hikers love the charm of Alp Flix with its babbling brooks and flower-filled meadows.
