Rossswald, on a mountain ridge at 1800 m altitude is reached from Ried-Brig. In winter a tiny snowsport resort, in summer offering an extensive network of hiking and biking routes. Until the construction of the aerial cableway in 1953, Rosswald was mainly used for pastureland and alp farming. The forests on the steep slopes, e.g. towards Ried-Brig are intensively used by the logging industry.
Today, traffic-free Rosswald is a tiny, family-friendly tourist resort with plenty to offer its guests. Just the view of the Alps and the Rhine valley from the sun terrace is remarkable and a wealth of Alpine flora can be found on hikes. Tours e.g. over the Salfisch Pass into Binntal or the Simplon-Höhenweg (high-level trail) to Rothwald are special highlights. Bikers will find a wide choice of routes with some spectacular downhill passages, e.g. from the Salfisch Pass to Rossweid and on to Brig.
A wide variety of snowsport is available in winter.
