Jet d'eau (water fountain)

Jet d'eau (water fountain)

If weather permits it, it is possible to admire the Water Fountain (Jet d'eau), symbol of Geneva. The water is projected from the nozzle at a speed of 200 kilometres per hour and it reaches a height of approximately 140 meters. This represents a mass of seven tons of water hanging in the air.
The first Water Fountain was several hundred meters downstream and served as a safety valve relieving the water pressure after the closing time of the numerous workshops depending on the hydroelectric plant of the Coulouvrenière.

After it became a tourist attraction, it was transferred to the harbour in 1891.
