Museum of Stained Glass and Glass Art

Romont - Switzerland’s capital of stained glass. Perched on a hilltop overlooking the rolling Fribourg countryside, the picturesque medieval town of Romont proudly defends this title thanks to the Vitromusée - the Swiss Museum of Stained Glass and Glass Art - based in the town’s castle.
Perched on a hilltop overlooking the rolling Fribourg countryside, the picturesque medieval town of Romont proudly defends this title thanks in no small part to the Vitromusée - the Swiss Museum of Stained Glass and Glass Art - based in the town’s castle.

Other outstanding examples of ancient as well as modern stained glass can be found in the many religious sanctuaries dotted around the regional. There is even a special hiking trail that will lead walkers on a tour through the region’s exquisite pieces of religious glass art. The museum boasts a unique and extensive collection of stained glass and reverse painting, as well as a glass painting workshop, and temporary exhibitions. The research centre on stained glass and glass art runs a number of courses which are open to the public.
