The monument for Wilhelm Tell, the freedom fighter in the history of Switzerland. This monument was created by Richard Kissling between 1882 to 1895.
Richard Kissling, Swiss sculptor, created the Wilhelm Tell monument in Altdorf (1895). This piece of art was produced by order of some politicians, who dictated the artists very precisely. For the Tell monument the order was to depict Wilhelm Tell as a proud, audacious, determined man wearing a traditional farmer's costume. The sculptor Richard Kissling carried out the task exactly according to the specifications.
Wilhelm Tell, in mediaeval appearing war clothing and with the crossbow on his shoulders, his arm around his son who holds the hand of his father and looks at him adoringly. The motive in this view from below hoists Tell to a significant size, the interaction of the strong muscles is suggested.
