Trans Swiss Trail
Stage 8, Murten–Laupen
Leisurely over the rolling hills of the Fribourg Mittelland. Shady forest sections interchange with open asphalted village sections. The confluence of the Saane and Sense rivers is a near-to-nature experience.
Take the time to stroll around Murten, which is famous for its battle and well known for the race that attracts thousands of participants every year. The castle of Münchenwiler, which stands 3 km south of Murten in the Bernese enclave of the same name, offers a romantic place to stop surrounded by a delightful park.
A fine viewpoint in Ober Echelried offers views over Jeuss, Cressier, Gurmels and the Fribourg Region as far as Le Moléson. The route continues through forests, meadows and villages. You will reach the banks of the Sarine in a magnificent setting of woods and reeds, close to the Auried footbridge. The confluence of the Sense and Sarine just before you reach Laupen is impressive.
Tip: be sure to stop in Auried, a Pro Natura nature reserve, to observe the amphibians and birds.
