Rappenstein

The Ridge Way leads through the imposing landscape to Rappenstein (2222 m), whose peak is adorned with a mighty cross. From here, all of the mountains of the Liechtenstein Alps, the Alpstein and on clear days Lake Constance as well are visible.
From Steg the path leads upwards to the mountain inn «Sücka». The path branches off sharply to left at Kulm into the ridge path along the main ridge of the Liechtenstein Alps. The ridge path leads through forested areas, with fantastic panoramic views, up and down the oscillating ridge, via Chrüppel and Heubüal, before the ascent to the summit begins at the Rappenstein Saddle.

The ridge path leads up to Goldlochspitz, and then descends into a saddle where the final ascent to the summit cross on Rappenstein begins: to the south, views are dominated by the massive cliffs of the Falknis Range, which only experienced Alpine mountaineers are capable of climbing. Tremendous panoramic views can be enjoyed from Rappenstein. Across the Rhine Valley the peaks of the Glarus Alps as well as Churfirsten and Säntis in the Appenzell Alps can be seen. In the distance, when the weather is good, it is also possible to see Lake Constance. The return journey leads back past the Rappenstein Saddle, then to the right down to Alp Gapfahl. From there the path descends to Valüna Valley, before following the stream to Steg.
