Amdener Höhenweg

The Amden high-Alpine route leads through the foothills of the alps, characterised by spruce and mountain pine woods and rich alpine flora. Part of the route leads through a protected moor of national importance, with fantastic panoramic views.
The route starts in Amden. This small village is located on a sunny plateau, high above the Walensee. It is part of the Amden-Weesen holiday region, along with the small historic town of Weesen. Both places combine alpine idyll with a southern beach atmosphere. The Mattstock cable car brings you comfortably to the starting point of the hike, mountain station Walau.

You then hike across broad alpine meadows towards Hintere Höhe. The next section largely passes through protected moorland; a marshy natural landscape of national importance, covered with mountain pines. In Stöckliriet, a slope bog beneath Furgglen, slight landslips conceal the smallest stream pools. These provide the ideal habitat for a wide variety of algae, frogs, alpine newts and insects.

The high-alpine route ends in Arvenbüel. Alongside the impressive nature reserves, the hike is accompanied by splendid views of the Toggenburg, the Alpstein mountains and the Glarus Alps. Several idyllic barbecue areas and mountain restaurants also line the route.
