Moorweg Gamperfin
Buchs (Voralp)–Buchs (Voralp)
The bog path takes you around the wild landscape of the Gamperfin highland bog, which is of national importance. Information plaques along the path provide the hiker with useful facts about the habitat.
The tour starts in Turbenriet, a highland bog protected by federal law. Not far from here there is the Voralpsee, idyllically embedded among the Grabs Alps. The highland bog forms the centre of the tour, which is home to rare species of plants and animals. To protect flora and fauna, it is forbidden to leave the marked paths and boardwalks.
From Turbenriet you reach the highland bog, where peat was dug as far back as 1850. A path leads through light woodland, full of blueberries and flowers. To protect the plants, a boardwalk leads over the bog. From Herti, the path continues on the alpine road to Ölberg. The wine tavern is worth a visit, with superb views of the Alpstein and the Kreuzberge.
From Ölberg, an untarmaced alpine road gently descends down to Lochgatter. Passing through Gamperfin will return you to the starting point. The region owes its rich variety of shapes to the advancing and retreating of glaciers some 2.5 million years ago.
