Limmat-Uferweg

The circular route from Zürich Höngg alongside the River Limmat soon leaves the city surroundings for a peaceful natural world. The route leads alongside the water, over the Werdinsel and past the Kloster Fahr (monastery) Relaxation can sometimes be close enough to touch.
The tour starts in Zürich Höngg and soon leads through shady woodland and on through the public bathing complex. You reach the River Limmat at the very start and follow the route alongside the rushing water. Surrounded by rich riverside vegetation, gnarled trees and the lush green meadows and fields in the background, you feel far away from busy city life.

One very popular spot is the Werdinsel which attracts many bathers in summer. The Fahr Benedictine Monastery is also well worth a visit, nestling quietly beside the water. The route repeatedly offers extensive views of unspoilt nature with many species of plants, wide fields and lush meadows. At Unterengstringen you cross over a bridge to the other side of the river.

The route now travels in the opposite direction to the flow of the Limmat. From Schönenwerd back to Zürich Höngg you once more travel along a striking river bank and can enjoy the murmuring of the water and the peaceful surroundings. There are plenty of places to rest or bathe along the way, to make your outing even better.
