Hochtal Val Frisal
Bergstation Burleun–Breil/Brigels
The Val Frisal Plateau is one of the most beautiful high valleys of the Alps. A wide view of the valley shows a vast floodplain with branching rivers. The Scatlé ancient spruce forest is another highlight of this hike.
The start is located at the mountain restaurant Burleun, known for spectacular views towards Obersaxen and Brigels, leads through a wildly romantic but nameless valley. The path leads along the bubbling and rushing Flembach creek past fragrant conifers. Once in Scatlé's ancient spruce forest near Chischarolas take a well-deserved break by the fireplace, where firewood is available for use. The Scatlé is the highest virgin spruce forest in Europe.
As you continue along the path along the Flembach, the peaks of the surrounding area such as the Kistenstöckli or Pez d'Artgas come into view, followed by numerous three-thousand-meter peaks. After a short climb to Frisal, the fabulous view into the wide Val Frisal finally opens. The valley looks either white because of the flowerheads of the marsh cottongrass, lush grassy-green, or golden-brown, depending on the season. If you're not too tired on the way back, you can climb up to the lookout point at Crap Cavigliauna. From Chischarolas the path leads on the right hand side of the valley to Breil / Brigels.
