Wolfenschiessen–Wolfenschiessen
This route will take you from Wolfenschiessen around and on top of the mount Wellenberg. The main characetistics of this trail is to see eight wonderful chapels and to be rewarded by the wonderful view of the Engelberg Valley.
The chapel trail starts in the village Wolfenschiessen, where you can find the church «Mary's Birt» and also the ossuary. Halfway to Oberrickenbach the path will take you past the Stutzkapelle Burgholz, chapel of Dolorous Mother of God. Located in Oberrickenbach you will see the Heilig-Kreuz Kapelle (Holy Cross Chapel), which was largely destroyed during an earthquake in 1601. It was rebuilt and could be inaugurated in 1604.
Walking down from the vantage point Eggeligrat you reach the chapel Bettelrüti offering a panoramic view. This chapel was built and inaugurated in 1700 in memory of Brother Konrad Scheuber. Further you will see in Altzellen the chapel St. Joder and then in the valley of Engelberg the chapel Grafenort. Following the river Aa you will reach the chapel of Sebastian in the village Dörfli. This chapel was built after the pestilence in 1620. Then the path will take you back to Wolfenschiessen.
Walking down from the vantage point Eggeligrat you reach the chapel Bettelrüti offering a panoramic view. This chapel was built and inaugurated in 1700 in memory of Brother Konrad Scheuber. Further you will see in Altzellen the chapel St. Joder and then in the valley of Engelberg the chapel Grafenort. Following the river Aa you will reach the chapel of Sebastian in the village Dörfli. This chapel was built after the pestilence in 1620. Then the path will take you back to Wolfenschiessen.
