Wildenstein – Rifenstein Weg
Liestal–Reigoldswil
A romantic walk on a plateau bordered by cherry trees in the Basel region, taking the walker back to the Middle Ages with a visit to the castle of Schloss Wildenstein. The last third of the walk overlaps with the path of the Erlebnisweg Titterten and the Rifensteiner Sagenweg.
After a warm-up phase from Liestal to Bubendorf, the first climb up the Murenberg is rewarded with the view of the Rhine valley.
This is soon followed by the nature conservation area of Schloss Wildenstein. 500-year-old gnarled oaks border the path, forming a romantic backdrop as far as the castle gate. On a tour including listening points, you immediately feel transported back to the Middle Ages. The magical rose garden, a detour to the Sormatt waterfall or a stop for refreshment at the courtyard shop round off your visit.
The walk continues through the hilly countryside to Titterten. The many cherry trees around Titterten make for a splendid sight when they are in full blossom, particularly in April. The dark, moss-clad Flüegrabe valley leads past the ruin of Rifenstein castle, shrouded in legend. Finally Reigoldswil marks the end of the walk and the starting point for excursions into the waterfall region.
