Chemin de la Combe Grède
Saint-Imier–Nods
Emotions are guaranteed on this exceptional walk. Passing through the Combe Grède, a wild and rebellious cleft, the exceptional view from the ridge of the Chasseral mountain and the gentle descent to Nods, nestling at the foot of the Chasseral, will delight the hiker in you.
This hike starts from St-Imier, a town of watchmaking, know-how and energy. After passing by the imposing buildings of the watchmaking brand that is the pride of the town, we rise on a gentle slope towards the Combe Grède which, at first sight, seems insurmountable to us. But the path, well maintained and equipped with ladders at the steepest points, will help you achieve this climb that is athletic to say the least. This nature reserve has retained its calm, its beauty, its diversity and its wild nature. A glimpse of a chamois or a marmot will remind you that wildlife reigns supreme here.
After a few hundred yards and a little detour via the Métairie de Morat (Murten smallholding) to quench your thirst, the ridge of the Chasseral is the centre of attention. Just one final effort and you will be rewarded with a view over the plateau of Diesse, the Swiss plateau, the lakes and the majestic chain of the Alps. The sight is so intense, you will almost forget that your adventure is not over yet. The descent to Nods on a pleasant path through pastures, groves and forests will be a brilliant end to your day. From Nods, you can reach Biel/Bienne by public transport.
