Breccaschlund-Panoramaweg

Hollowed out by glaciers, the wild landscape of the Breccaschlund is both fascinating and mysterious. A circular walk, technically quite simple, leads from the Riggisalp, which overlooks the Schwarzsee, to the foot of some imposing cliffs. The return to the valley is punctuated with Alpine restaurants.
Take the chair lift from Schwarzsee (1,047 m of height) for a comfortable ride to the Bärghuus Riggisalp (1,493 m of height), the starting point for the Breccaschlund circular walk. The path features panoramic views and will quickly take you into the heart of the mountains between Charmey, Jaun and Schwarzsee.

The “Untere Euschels” mountain restaurant is a welcoming spot for a coffee break. The walk continues along a gently undulating route with some fine views. Rippetli, in particular, offers a breathtaking view over the Schwarzsee. The Breccaschlund nature reserve, a national heritage site, is nearby. The role played by glaciers in creating the landscape is clear at first glance. The limestone cliffs, whose white teeth stretch up to the sky, above the luxuriant greenery of the Alpine pastures, are particularly magical. Admire this majestic setting, made up of old drystone walls, Alpine flowers and cows ruminating beneath imposing sycamores.

There are numerous local inns along the route – the Alpine restaurant St. Antoni Brecca, at the Alp Cerniets or the Alp Steinige Rippa, for example, knows exactly how to pay tribute to fine cheese. But remember to leave a bit of room for dessert, which we suggest you have at the Alp Hubel Rippa, with a splendid panoramic view over the Schwarzsee, around 20 minutes’ walk away. Tip: from Rippetli in Breccaschlund, you can reduce the length of the walk by a good four kilometres.
