Spectacular views of Lac Léman are the hallmark of this varied level hike. From fashionable Montreux, the route leads past the famous Chateau Chillon to Villeneuve. Along this stretch the lake shore is often less than 10 metres from the trail.
Located between Lake Geneva and steep mountain slopes, Montreux has a mild climate and subtropical vegetation along its lakeside promenade. In July the whole town lives to the rhythm of the Montreux Jazz Festival. The concerts attract around 250,000 visitors over a period of 20 days.
Chateau Chillon stands on a rocky outcrop on the shores of Lake Geneva. The moated castle is the most visited historic building in Switzerland, an architectural gem set in the most beautiful surroundings imaginable; Lake Geneva and the mountains. The building is over 1000 years old and has inspired the fantasies of artists such as Rousseau, Hugo, Delacroix and Courbet.
Because of its position at the upper end of Lake Geneva, Villeneuve has retained its old, original character. Three parking spaces for wheelchair users are located at Montreux railway station. Another parking space for wheelchair users is located on the lakeside promenade, approx. 700m from the railway station (directly on the route).

The first section is on an asphalted pavement alongside the road. This section has no significant gradients.
km0.2 - km0.3
The asphalted pavement has a downhill gradient of 10% on this section.
km0.3 - km4.4
On this section we reach the beautiful lakeside promenade. The floral splendour along the path and the view of the mountains are unique. At km 3.9 you meet a few metres with a 7% uphill gradient. This short slope is followed by a level, asphalted section with an open view of Chateau Chillon.

A Eurokey toilet is located on the left at km1, on the lakeside promenade near the covered market buildings and the statue of Freddie Mercury. This section in front of Chateau Chillon is over uneven cobblestones that create a rough ride.
Chateau Chillon
The courtyard of Chateau Chillon is accessible, but however is also paved with cobblestones. Other rooms are not wheelchair accessible. The cafeteria has a wheelchair-accessible toilet. To use this, you must ask for the key at the entrance. No payment is required for use of the toilet only. WC info: door width 95cm; movement area (DxB) 200x198cm; seat height 43cm; hand grips: left moveable, right fixed; access right; mirror height 107cm (folding mirrors); washbasin underside clearance 70cm.

The last section of the route follows good, asphalted paths with no significant gradients.

Barrier-free return travel / public transport
The return journey is made with bus No. 201 back to the Montreux Gare bus station and to the Montreux support railway station. The bus station is about five minutes away from the railway station. This time the 10% gradient to master is uphill.
