From Frinvillier, the path takes you down through the little village and across the bridge over the river Schüss/Suze. Two important roads crossed here in the Roman era: one led from Petinesca (now called Studen) to the Rhine; the other linked Avenches and Solothurn. On leaving the road, your route takes you through a narrow entrance onto a zig-zag path that climbs continually upwards.

At a height of around 1,000 meters, when you have already completed the steepest section of the entire stage, the path broadens out and crosses meadowland that is typical of this locality. A striking feature: the huge old trees that line this section of the route. Equally striking is the hefty 114 meter-high transmitter tower that you approach as you climb gently over the southern ridge. Above 1,400 meters, the Chasseral is no longer forested. Yellow gentians add a splash of colour to the meadows in summer.

The highest point of this stage is near the transmitter tower, at 1,606 meters above sea level. An asphalted road takes you from here to the Hotel Chasseral. Although the Chasseral is not the highest elevation in the Jura, it is popularly known as the King of the Jura. The vista is also fit for a king or a queen: you look south across the lakes, the Alps and the Tessenberg high plateau studded with fields that glisten in a rainbow of colours. To the north, the view stretches past the Mont Soleil wind turbines as far as the Vosges.
