Rochers-de-Naye
Rochers-de-Naye, an imposing rock formation above Montreux offers simply stunning views of Lac Léman and the surrounding Alps. In good weather views as far as the Eiger, the Mont Blanc massif and Geneva’s famous Jet d’eau fountain.
The cogwheel railway leads through forests and fields and past cliffs on its journey up to Rochers-de-Naye at 2042 m. The departure point for the almost one-hour journey is Montreux railway station. The higher you climb above the lake, the more impressive the lake and mountain views become.
Once at the top, you have stunning panoramic views of the icy giants of the Bernese Valais and Savoyan high Alps with Mont Blanc. Rochers-de-Naye is not only the starting point for hikes but also a take-off point for paragliders and hang-gliders. Equally attractive is the La Rambertia Alpine Garden, where around 1000 various colourful and sweetly scented species of plants from all over the world are on display.
A tunnel leads from the railway station through the mountain to the Plein Roc Restaurant in the rock, with superb views of Lac Léman. The Rochers-de-Naye region and the nearby Dent de Jaman offer countless opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and climbing. Popular hiking tours lead up from the stations of the Montreux-Berner Oberland Railway at Les Avants and Les Cases.
