Albis Passhöhe

The Albispass is part of Zurich’s nearby recreational area with a dense hiking-path network, vantage points and restaurants. The nearby Türlersee with its bathing opportunities is a popular excursion destination.
The road over the Albispass leads from Langnau am Albis to Mettmenstetten; summit 791m altitude. It is appreciated by bikers - with or without engines. The Albispass was the most important link between Zurich and Central Switzerland, most likely used as early as the 13th century to reach the Gotthardpass. It had a scheduled postal coach service from 1790. Today’s footpath corresponds to the old pass road.

Undoubtedly the most frequented hiking path in the vicinity of Zurich leads from Üetliberg over the hill chain to the Albispass. A variety of paths (approx. 3 hrs) reward hikers with impressive views of the city of Zurich, the Zurichsee lake and the Alps of Central Switzerland. The path has almost no uphill sections. The Albispass - Albishorn - Hausen round hike is another popular route.

The Langenberg Wildlife Park at Langnau am Albis focuses on bears, wolves, lynx and wildcats. Together with the nearby natural landscape of Sihlwald, the wildlife park offers a wide range of nature and educational experiences.

On the eastern side of the Albispass is the tiny Türlersee lake with a camp site and lido, a favourite recreational area. And close to the village of Hausen am Albis are the Schnabelburg ruins.

Highlights

  • Recreational area - close to the city, the Albis is a firm favourite with walkers, hikers, mountain bikers etc.
  • Türlersee - an idyllic little lake circled by a path, with camp site, restaurant and several bathing spots.
  • Langenberg Wildlife Park - spacious enclosures for species of native animals in Langnau am Albis, admission free.
