Sattel
The village of Sattel in the Canton Schwyz pre-Alps is departure point of the world's first aerial cableway with revolving panorama gondolas that take guests up to fun and sport facilities as well as to the famous 374m long suspension bridge «Raiffeisen Skywalk». Sattel was the scene of the Battle of Morgarten. It is also the home of Europe’s oldest wooden house.
The village of Sattel lies on the pass leading from Goldau and Schwyz to the Ägerisee lake and into the high valley of the Biber towards Einsiedeln and the Zürichsee. On 15 November 1315, the hamlet of Schornen am Morgarten in the municipal district of Sattel was the scene of a battle between the Habsburgs and the people of Schwyz with their allies. The battle went down in history as the confederates' «first fight for freedom». The Habsburg army suffered a crushing defeat and the Morgarten memorial at the Ägerisee and a chapel commemorate the Battle of Morgarten.
Summer
The Sattel-Hochstuckli aerial gondola offers a mountain cableway in a class of its own. «Stuckli Rondo» is the world's first aerial cableway with revolving gondolas which carries guests in comfort from Sattel to Mostelberg. On the top there are a summer sledge (with steep-walled bends and tunnels), the «Stuckli Jump» (jumping paradise with trampolines and bouncy castle), a 120m long tubing ride and at 374 meters, one of the world’s longest suspension bridges. Furthermore the Mostelberg is the departure point for hikes and strolls. On these routes the hikers pass a lot of mountain inns and fireplaces.
Winter
In winter the region transforms itself into a family-friendly winter-sport area with 14 km of slopes with beautiful hiking routes. For sledging fans the racy run from Mostelberg down to Sattel is an experience not to be missed (on saturdays even at night). Snowshoe treks followed by fondue or moonshine menus round off a fun-filled day in the snow.
