Huttwil, often called the «Flower Town», lies above the confluence of the Langeten, Rotbach and Wyssachen rivers in Canton Bern, close to the border with Canton Lucerne. The town is a traffic intersection between Emmental, Oberaargau and the Lucerne hinterland.

It has many leisure facilities, one of the most important being the National Sport and Culture Centre (NSZ). This consists of an ice stadium, outdoor ice rink, athletics facilities, football field, indoor climbing wall, restaurant, various seminar and lecture rooms, a triple gymnasium and two buildings offering accommodation. The sports centre is a modern training and competition centre and a venue for a variety of events. Huttwil’s leisure options are rounded off by a large open-air swimming pool.

The ground floor of the Salze Cultural Centre houses the Salzbütte Museum with its local history collection. The town centre received its classic appearance after a fire in June 1834. Adjacent to the village square and church is the historic «Mohren» inn. This was mentioned as an important pilgrims’ hostel as early as the 13th century, as Huttwil is on a section of the Route of St. James. The town is also a departure point for a tour to the Napf, a popular scenic hiking destination in the Emmental.
