Museo Regionale delle Centovalli Pedemonte

Museo Regionale delle Centovalli Pedemonte

The museum is set in a beautiful 18th century house in the centre of Intragna. It hosts an interesting permanent collection, giving insight into the history and traditions of the region. Further the museum offers thematic temporary exhibitions and it also exhibits the work of local artists.
The collection is spread over 20 halls and rooms in the main building and in the outdoor area surrounding the wonderful courtyard. Here one can also find the museums baking oven, which is used for bread baking during the yearly bread and wine festival and also an old walnut oil mill.

In the main building there is a reconstruction of a traditional kitchen, a collection of the typical cloth shoes with rope soles, handmade in a workshop in Intragna in ancient times as well as a rich collection of items and tools for everyday use. In one of the exhibiting rooms the chimney sweep trade is also remembered as being a hard physical work, which also involved child labour in past times. Further the museum hosts the photographic archives collection of Rico Jenny.

For visits to the bell tower of the village (it stands 65 meters tall and is the highest bell tower in Ticino) please contact the museum directly.
