Wildegg Castle

Wildegg Castle

In its converted state, Schloss Wildegg is unique in Switzerland. Go on a journey of discovery through authentic living rooms, marvel at the Fencing Hall or wander through vegetable and ornamental garden covering an area of more than 3000 m².
Schloss Wildegg was built as a castle around 1200 by the Habsburgs and from 1483 was owned by eleven generations of the Effinger family. Today the castle has been extensively preserved and fitted out in its original condition. Enabling visitors to gain an authentic insight into the culture and life of the patrician Effinger family. Take a look into the barn with its row of stables, explore the Erlach court with the ancient vaulted cellar, or inside the castle imagine how it must have been to live here several hundred years ago.

In addition to the castle premises you can also immerse yourself into an oasis of fragrances in the family's vegetable and ornamental garden. Around 400 primarily ancient cultivated and medicinal plants are grown here. In the past, these were offered for sale on Swiss markets. The Wildegg castle grounds, covering an area of 100 hectares, also encompass a rose garden, an organic produce farm, a vineyard, a terrace of lime trees as well as an area of forest.
