Verena Minster

Verena Minster

Visit one of most beautiful churches in the Aargau region. The Verena Minster has been the heart of Bad Zurzach since 1600 and a destination for pilgrimages to the grave of St. Verena, one of the most popular saints in Switzerland.
The Verena Minster, a former convent and canon monastery which today serves as a parish church and cultural venue, is located in the heart of Bad Zurzach. The church has St. Verena to thank for its name; she was buried here in the 4th Century. Learn about the legend of St. Verena by reading the twelve tableaux in the nave of Verena Minster and experience the mystic atmosphere of the place of pilgrimage.

Since time immemorial, 1 September has been celebrated in Bad Zurzach with visitors as St. Verena's day. The shops remain closed for this celebration and people devote themselves to the celebrations, the highlight of which is a festival service. In addition to St. Verena's day, services, concerts and readings are held regularly in Verena Minster during the course of the year, giving a palpable lift to the spirits of the region.

Experience the energy of Bad Zurzach and gain a further insight into its history during a guided tour.
