Sarnerseerundfahrt
Sarnen–Sachseln–Wilen–Sarnen
This easy tour is a good choice for families. Experience the beautiful valley and its unique lakeside landscape.
The starting point is Sarnen, the capital of Obwalden. Here you’ll see the Hexenturm (witch tower), one of the few remaining castle towers dating back to the establishment of the Swiss confederation. It was built shortly before 1291 and later became national property in 1308. Above Sarnen you’ll also see Landenberg Castle, which once belonged to the Habsburger clan, whom the Swiss despised.
On the bike path leading toward Sachseln you’ll find lovely old farmhouses, many of them right on the lake. Near Giswil you’ll find a swimming area next to the campground. Soon after you’ll come to a shady forest with wild brooks that invite the children to play in them.
