Belpbergroute
Uetendorf–Uetendorf
From Uetendorf railway station, the route leads along the renatured River Limpach through fertile agricultural country until Gerzensee and the steep climb to Belpberg. This tour delights with great views of the Aare, Gürbe and Stockental valleys.
Ride alongside the renatured Limpach past the farming hamlets of Stoffelsrüti and Kienersrüti on the flanks of the wide valley until you reach Kirchdorf. Continue along the shores of Lake Gerzensee to the same-named village. It is worthwhile taking a glance into the courtyard of the “new” castle. Built in 1690 and attractively completed over time under changing ownership, it now belongs to a Swiss National Bank-run foundation and serves as an educational institution and meeting centre.
After arriving on the Belpberg summit, it is well worth taking a short detour to the Chutzen viewpoint with views of the Aaretal valley. Take a break for refreshments at the restaurant of the same name.
Ride down the western flank of the Belpberg at a leisurely pace. The road leads you past well-tended groups of farmhouses at Hofstetten and Sädel and reveals clear views of the flat farmlands in the Gürbe Valley. On the horizon, picture-postcard views of the Bernese Alps feature the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks.
