Bern-Süd-Route
Schwarzenburg–Bern
Over the Längenberg und Belpberg, both made up of Ice Age moraine deposits, with fantastic views of the Alpine chain, through the arable plains of Gürbetal and Aaretal, then on easy side roads through the outskirts of Bern, a UNESCO World Heritage city.
This route twists and turns close to Bern, showing recreational areas outside the large urban sprawl.
From Schwarzenburg to the home of "Vreneli ab em Guggisberg". Around the Guggershorn to Rüschegg-Graben. From the gully of the Biberze along the Gibelegg to Riggisberg, where the Abegg-Stiftung (Foundation) exhibits fascinating textile art. But the valuable ancient old fabrics may not be touched. From Längenberg down to Gürbetal «cabbage country», from where the route climbs to Belpberg and tranquil Gerzensee, an outstanding oasis of peace with unbeatable long-distance views. Then another thrilling downhill run to the green-blue waters of the Aare. You cross the prosperous residential district of Münsingen and then head for the oldest settlements in the Aaretal.
A yellowhammer sings in the former marshland of Trimsteinmoos and meadowsweets flood the air with their sensual fragrance. Things get busy again in the valley of the Weorble, where the former «blaue Bähnli» train jogged through the urban sprawl as an efficient shuttle. The route cleverly dodges the main areas of turmoil but old and new industrial developments appear in front of your handlebars before Route 37 disappears in Worblaufen.
