Graubünden Route
Chur–Thusis–Martina / Bellinzona
The Graubünden Route leads along breathtaking stretches through glorious Alpine landscapes, from Chur over the Albulapass to Engadine and on a second branch of the route, along the Hinterrhein over the Bernhardinpass down to Bellinzona.
Experience the inspiring Graubunden Alpine landscape with all senses. Flee the easy-going charm of the Rhaetian capital, take the Polenweg (Polish Path) and enjoy sensational views of the Hinterrhein. The blooming garden of Graubunden: the Domleschg, protected by fortresses and the Piz Beverin. The rugged Schijnschlucht (gorge); follow the steep curves of the Rhaetian Railway, the stony and winding Albulapass. Now the Engadine: wide and open with clear views of snow-capped summits. As quiet as the beat of an eagle’s wing, nature in the Engiadina bassa.
The route of the other branch: Via Mala, 300m-deep, the most awe-inspiring gorge in Rhaetia, friendly sun-drenched wooden houses in Splügen, a climb to the Alpine moorland of the Bernhardinpass. Past glacier-polished rocks and mountain farms, a heady descent to Valle Mesolcina, a 2000 m drop without pedalling! The mild south beckons, the asphalt bakes. The end in sight: Bellinzonas’ towers, defiant defenders of a former trade route.
