Rhein–Hirzel–Linth
Kaiserstuhl–Niederurnen (Ziegelbrücke)
Between Kaiserstuhl and Ziegelbrücke peaceful valleys, plains, moraine landscapes and lake shores alternate with industrial areas and the hectic buzz of Zurich, the business metropolis.
Lost in time, tiny medieval Kaiserstuhl, with its hexagonal fountain, constantly guarded by the massive Oberen Turm (upper tower). The route follows the waters of the Fisibach through peaceful Bachsertal, drops to the lowlands at Neeracherried and gets caught up in the tumult of the industrial districts of Wehntal and Furttal.
After a short breather at Chatzensee, crossing Zurich will give anyone a good shake up with the exhilarating spirit of the economic metropolis experienced at close quarters. On the climb up to Zimmerberg things improve, with occasional glimpses of the Zürichsee.
Drumlins and marshy hollows lie picturesque in between small farms in the moraine landscape of Hirzel - Samstagern, before new country houses take over the scene and Pfäffikon appears. After a short Obersee detour the going becomes flat, with large green fields in the March region. The fertile plain is easily accessible by rail and motorway; the industrial firms and the Linthkanal are soon reached.
