The Swiss Hiking Trails Association coordinates the communication of closures and detours of hiking in Switzerland routes and hiking trails as reported by the responsible hiking trail organizations of each canton.

The SwitzerlandMobility Foundation coordinates the communication of closures and detours of winter hiking trails, snowshoe trails, sledding runs and cross-country ski trails (winter activities) as reported by the responsible agencies of each canton, the communities, regional tourism organizations or tourism providers.

Closures and detours are published at switzerlandmobility.ch, but not at geo.admin.ch or other platforms.

• Closures and detours due to current and/or important events will be published no later than on the working day following the report. The reports are validated for plausibility, completeness and consistency and translated into four languages (d/f/i/e) no later than 3 working days after the report.
• Closures and detours regarding planned events will be published no earlier than 7 days prior to the beginning of the event.
• Closures and detours are published primarily if they last a minimum of one week.

• Barriers, danger signs, regulations, information and detour signs on site must be followed. Information and signalization on site always take priority over the digital information regarding closures and detours.
• Hiking trails, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, and skating in Switzerland routes are intended to be used during the snow- and ice-free time of the year. Outside of this time, the trails and routes are passable under appropriate conditions. Based on the time of year, the weather conditions and the topography/elevation, snow, ice and related dangers have to be expected at all times.
• If no closure or detour is published for a winter hiking trail, a snowshoe trail, a sledding run or a cross-country ski trail, this does not necessarily mean that the trail or the route is «open» and therefore passable. Winter activities are intended only for the winter season. Depending on the weather, snow or other conditions the trails and routes may also be «closed» and therefore impassable during the winter season. switzerlandmobility.ch provides information on a daily basis on whether trails and routes are passable («open» or «closed»). Outside of the winter season these trails and routes are closed.
• Tours must be carefully planned by the users. Also, the requirements, the trail conditions and the weather must be continuously evaluated along the way and the tour must be rerouted, if necessary.
