Monstein

Monstein

Monstein is located at 1620 m altitude on a sunny terrace in the Landwassertal valley, surrounded by impressive peaks, aromatic Alpine pastures and extensive forest. An ideal place to tank up on tranquillity.
Monstein still features the unmistakeable characteristics of a typical Walser village. Many houses, particularly those around the 15 granaries, the barns and alp huts are built of wood, some are even roofed with traditional larch shingles. In addition, the Monstein villagescape is shaped by well-tended vegetable gardens, 10 village fountains and two churches.

Politically speaking, Monstein belongs to the municipality of Davos but has remained autonomous in many respects, for example in performing numerous public duties. Despite its small size, numbering fewer than 200 inhabitants, Monstein still has its local school. The opening of Europe’s highest-altitude brewery marked another milestone in marketing local products.

In summer, the village is the starting point for many memorable hikes. In winter and well into spring, extensive ski pistes and cross-country ski runs in the vicinity offer an invitation to the ultimate in snow-sport. Davos, the main municipality is easily reached in 15 minutes by Rhaetian Railway.
