Wald, Gibswil–Wald, Gibswil
The Wald panoramic cross-country ski trail fully justifies its name: The classic trail on the Bachtel, Zurich Oberland’s local mountain, offers a spectacular panoramic view. In good weather you can spot the Churfirsten peaks, the Rigi and enjoy the view over the Lake Zurich.
The starting point of the Wald panoramic cross-country ski trail is the TCS parking lot in Gibswil, around 300 meters from the train station. After an ascent of about seven kilometres from 750 to 900 meters above sea level across meadows and pastures, the trail offers a remarkable view over the Lake Zurich and an impressive mountain panorama with the Churfirsten peaks and the Rigi.
At the turning point of the trail, the view of the Bachtel mountain is amazing. Along Zurich Oberland’s local mountain, the trail takes skiers through varied terrain to the Amslen cross-country centre. The popular meeting point offers a small, heated restaurant. Skiers who would like to shorten their route here, have the opportunity to go back directly to the starting point in Gibswil.
For everyone else, the tour continues on the five-kilometre Seelisberg cross-country ski trail. It passes farms and ends up at the Seelisberg ponds that are contemporary witnesses of industrialisation. In the 19th century, the ponds were used for the thriving textile industry in Gibswil by means of an elaborate water pipe system. Offering a spectacular view into the Upper Töss Valley, the trail leads back to the cross-country centre, from where skiers will return to the starting point by way of pleasant descents.
