Talloipe Alt St. Johann

The longest trail in Toggenburg offers everything a cross-country skier’s heart desires: in the flat valley between Alpstein and the Churfirsten cross-country skiers glide in long swing turns along Thur.
Between the two typical Toggenburg valleys Unterwasser and Alt St. Johann, at the foothills of Churfirsten and Alpstein, the popular valley trail is located. The starting point is Alt St. Johann, but also in Unterwasser and Starkenbach it can be individually started. The trail at the foothills of the Churfirsten mountain range is easy and suitable for both beginners and also advanced cross-country skiers.

Beginners start with the loop Alt St. Johann – Unterwasser, which is broadly aligned and completely flat. Along Thur and over the meadows in the valley it goes from the valley station of Sellamatt railway to the valley station of Iltios railway and back again. Advanced cross-country skiers add the loop Alt St. Johann – Starkenbach, which leads through the idyllic winter landscape. It is also mainly flat, but there are some crests and inclinations to master.

Several restaurants in Alt St. Johann and Starkenbach are perfect for an occasional break. The trail is well reachable by public and private transport.
