Piste du Cernil
La Brévine–Les Cernets–La Brévine
The people of this region have cross-country skiing in their blood. They are used to extreme cold and in times gone by, children would ski to school. No wonder this valley is still a breeding ground for champions.
The trail between La Brévine and Les Cernets is very diverse in terms of its landscape but also its topography. Les Cernets is also the ideal starting point for the 163 km Traversée du Jura Suisse (TJS). As you leave La Brévine, you’ll soon find yourself in the wooded pastures typical of the Jura. The trail is never monotonous: it passes a few farms but stays mainly in the open countryside and far from the bustle of civilisation.
The route described and recommended here continues to Les Cernets, where refreshments are available. If you decide to spend the night here, you’ll certainly be joined by other skiers because the hotel, run by a family of cross-country skiers, is also on the route of the 180 km Grande Traversée du Jura Français (GTJ).
From Les Cernets, the route back to La Brévine passes the «Vers chez le Brandt» cave and reaches the valley quite soon afterwards. There’s still a long distance to cover, but you’ll find two more cosy restaurants along the way.
