Piste La Grande Boucle
Les Breuleux–Les Breuleux
The "Grande Boucle" is an exceptional cross-country skiing loop for those who want to tour the Franches-Montagnes. The gentle downhill gradient runs for 42km, the same distance as a marathon. This route criss-crosses the region and its unspoiled landscapes.
The Franches-Montagnes are a real paradise for cross-country skiers. The plateau at an altitude of 1000m is comprised of pastured woodland, picturesque farms that are typical of the region and clear, sunlit green areas. This is the ideal place to recharge your batteries and discover the scenery and cultural highlights of the region.
The starting point is located in Les Breuleux, the region's Nordic skiing centre. The piste heads in a westerly direction, gliding across the pasturelands of Les Breuleux. Its slalom, weaving in and out of snowy pine trees, is superb and unique. The piste is practically flat until you reach La Combe à la Biche. Then, heading towards the villages of Les Bois, Le Noirmont and Saignelégier, the piste becomes slightly hillier. The landscape is more open too. Here you are closer to civilisation. The piste between Saignelégier and Le Cernil is increasingly twisty and is very varied. From Le Cernil towards Les Breuleux, the piste is flat and very exposed, the perfect ‘boulevard’ for sledging. Around Les Cerlatez, you'll have the chance to visit Etang de la Gruère lake, which may be frozen over.
The «Grande Boucle» is a real journey, an expedition and a unique experience that can be completed over two days in order to enjoy the region's numerous attractive features.
