Loipe Garfiun
Klosters, Monbiel–Klosters, Monbiel
“In Klosters, the cross-country trail to Garfiun is indescribably beautiful,” gushes local elite skier Seraina Boner. The section from romantic Monbiel to the Alp Garfiun and back is not just a well-kept secret amongst locals.
The small hamlet of Monbiel, which can be reached in 10 minutes by postbus, is the starting point of the route, which leads from there into open countryside straight towards the Baretschrüti and then to the Schwendi. On the way you pass many pre-wintering sheds and can savour wonderful views over the gushing Landquart river.
You reach Garfiun after a short section through the forest and a gentle downhill section past Parsenn Boden. From here, skiers can plan in a shorter or longer stop in the rustic Alphütte to sample some of the genuine Grisons dishes on offer. The Alphütte lies some 5 minutes off the trail. Crossing the Verstancla stream which rises to the west of the Silvretta glacier, there is a loop past Alp Untersäss, where you turn around.
The route then leads down the valley, along the Landquart river, which is also crossed after a few hundred metres. After yet another crossing you come to the Baretschrüti from where you follow the same section back to Monbiel.
