Reuss Kanu
Bremgarten–Gebenstorf
The Reuss is the green oasis in the heart of the Mittelland. The jungle-like vegetation on its banks, rapids and many islands make this a wonderfully varied canoeing trip.
From the tiny picturesque town of Bremgarten, you embark on a journey through the middle of one of the largest natural landscapes in the Mittelland. The Reuss winds in sweeping curves between lush green banks, protected nature reserves along their whole length.
The river itself is very varied. Various rapids require concentration but on the quieter stretches you can explore around numerous islands.
You paddle along with the swift current, past Gnadenthal Monastery, the picturesque town of Mellingen and finally through a dark and secluded wooded dingle to leave the river at Gebenstorf. Its natural beauty and easy white waters make the Reuss one of the most rewarding goals in Switzerland for canoeists.

Dangerous spot
Rapids shortly after Bremgarten (Honegger weir). Keep to the right of the island in the middle of the river.
Rapids between Göslikon-Fischbach and Gnadenthal. From Göslikon-Fischbach, continue on the left side of the river middle – then, on passing the island to your right, switch to right side of the river, as a damn on the left side hinders passage.
Obstacles in the river and near the banks. Trees and bridge piers protruding from the river to be avoided in good time.
Under no circumstances continue after the river exit point at Gebenstorf (immediately after river bend). The following weir is not navigable and extremely dangerous.
