Bodensee Kanu
Kreuzlingen–Stein am Rhein
Brooding fortresses, bright castles. Mighty monasteries, giant flocks of birds and a seemingly endless surface of water. The Bodensee is quite simply a lake of superlatives.
This canoeing stretch crosses the tranquil Untersee in two stages. Separated by the Seerhein from the Obersee, the «Swabian Sea», the Untersee has its own individual appeal. And not only for canoeists: every year up to 250,000 migratory birds use the shallow waters and extensive reed landscape as their winter quarters or a stopover on their travels. In autumn you paddle amidst huge flocks of birds - an intoxicating experience. Please pay particular attention to the rules of conduct in this natural paradise.
Long ago the region was inhabited by pile dwellers drawn by the pleasant climate and abundant fishing. And so today’s varied and attractive cultural landscape was created. Much can be discovered by boat, from charming Gottlieben with its timber-framed buildings and Drachenburg (castle) to the Franciscan monastery on Werdinsel and 1000-year-old Stein am Rhein.
Don’t miss the chance to enjoy fresh Bodensee fish in one of the romantic harbour restaurants.
